Turning Points — What Do You Do When Life Takes an Unexpected Turn?

At Watsonville Church of the Nazarene, we kicked off a powerful new sermon series called “Turning Points”—a look at the moments in Scripture where lives were changed by a single, unexpected shift. In the opening message, Pastor Ryan took us to Acts 9 and the dramatic story of Saul’s encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus.

A Life-Changing Encounter

Pastor Ryan reminded us that life doesn’t always go as planned. One day everything feels secure and the next, everything shifts—a job ends, a door closes, a relationship changes, or an unexpected opportunity arises. For Saul, a zealous persecutor of Christians, the shift was immediate and jarring. One moment he was marching with confidence, the next he was blind and humbled by the risen Jesus.

But what stood out wasn’t just the dramatic moment of encounter—it was what Saul did after the encounter. He paused. He didn’t rush forward or try to force clarity. Instead, he sat in stillness for three days, waiting, listening, and recalibrating his heart. Pastor Ryan encouraged us to do the same in our own seasons of transition.

"When life takes a turn you didn’t expect," Pastor Ryan said, "the most faithful thing you can do might just be to pause."

⏸️ What If We Didn’t Rush Ahead?

The message was not just about personal change—it was a vision for our church. What if we became a community that created space for the Holy Spirit to guide us in moments of transition? What if we trusted God more than our own timelines?

It’s the kind of church we’re becoming at WatsNaz—a place marked not by panic or pressure, but by prayer, peace, and trust in God’s unfolding work.
